The Joanna Eden Quartet: “Road to Paysandu”

Unmistakably English in the same way as Christine McVie, Steve Winwood, or Nick Drake, Joanna Eden is a singer songwriter who grew up in the heart of England listening to UK artists playing American blues, jazz and pop.

MOJO magazine describes her song-writing as having ‘melody, mystery and bite’. With six solo albums to her credit, Joanna is considered one of the finest singer-pianists in the UK with a style that covers a broad spectrum, through jazz, soul, bossa nova and blues. Her beautifully crafted compositions give life to personal and expressive lyrics, which - like her songwriting hero Joni Mitchell - question and reflect life’s changes.

Joanna’s interaction with her audience is warm and she has built up a huge following over her 20 year career, performing regularly at Ronnie Scott’s Club, The Stables & Apex concert halls. The quality of Joanna’s live work is reflected by the stellar list of artists she and her world class band have supported including Van Morrison, Tom Jones, Jamie Cullum, Roy Hargrove and The Buena Vista Social Club.

Uruguayan guitarist Guillermo Hill made his name in Uruguay playing with Fernando Cabrera and Mariana Ingold before moving to England and studying at the Guildhall School of Music. Since then he has become a regular on the jazz/Brazilian scene appearing with artists such as Ola Onabule, Mica Paris, Tom Jones, John Crawford, Monica Vasconcelos, Luna Cohen - a great improviser and composer.

Uruguayan bass player Andrés Lafone studied at the Guildhall School of Music and was one of the pioneers of the UK Latin/Jazz scene. He has over 50 albums to his credit and has toured/ played/ recorded with Airto Moreira, Snowboy, Jon Cleary, Basia, Matt Bianco, Da Lata, Negrocan, Monica Vasconcelos, Grand Union Orchestra, Mike Lindup and others.

Drummer George Double has played for Mica Paris, Art Themen, John Etheridge, Jack Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey (to name but a few). He has performed in the West End and all over the UK and is a leading drum educator and drum kit consultant for Trinity College London.
