Your Frequently Asked Questions...

Got some questions about weddings at SbN? Take a look at our frequently asked questions.

  • We are thinking of having a church ceremony. What are the nearest churches to Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa?

The closest churches to SbN are:

    St Mary’s Church, Stoke by Nayland (Church Street, Stoke-by-Nayland, Suffolk, CO6 4QU – 01206 262814)

St. James Church, Nayland (High St, Nayland, Suffolk CO6 4JE – 01206 262993)

  • Can I offer my guests a choice menu?

Most weddings have a set menu with all guests having the same, vegetarians and specific dietary requirements are catered for over and above.

A choice menu can be given, but it would need to be limited to a maximum of three choices for each course and all choices have to be given in advance and marked on table plans. We would also ask that the guest’s menu choice is annotated on place cards.

  • Can we try the wedding menu before choosing for our guests?

We offer the bride and grooms-to-be a complimentary wedding tasting in our Lakes Restaurant, to sample their wedding breakfast course choices. Our head chef, is available on the day, will talk through the layout of the courses to make sure you are happy with your menu and what will be served on the day.

If you would like to invite any friends or family to share this experience with you, this will cost £26.00pp for the extra guests.

  • Can we supply our own food?

Outside catering is not permitted (unless multicultural weddings requiring outside catering for religious reasons) however things like candy stalls, chocolate fountains, ice-cream vans are allowed but only if it is a supplement to our catering.

  • Where are the photographs taken?

Most photographs are taken on the terrace areas. If a Devora Suite wedding then group photos are taken on the green area below the terrace, if Garden/Gainsborough wedding then group photos are taken on the green area in front of the Garden Room. The couple are also taken down to the lake for photographs – this is the lake by the 10th green, Gainsborough course.

  • What is the traditional top table seating plan?

Top table would normally be set as:

Chief Bridesmaid; Groom’s Father; Bride’s Mother; Groom; Bride; Bride’s Father; Groom’s Mother; Best Man.

  • What is the usual order of speeches?

Traditionally it would be the bride’s father, the groom and his best man in that order.

  • Do you allow confetti?

We do allow confetti at SbN, but only outside at the front of the building and within the function rooms. We do ask that confetti is biodegradable. We also allow confetti cannons.

  • What time do we have to finish?

Standard finish time is midnight with last orders at the bar at 11.45pm. We can offer a late licence until 1pm at an additional charge of £250.00.

  • Are we able to allocate some hotel bedrooms for our wedding guests?

Yes – 15 rooms including the bridal suite will be allocated for your guests. Rates start from £80.00 per night, based on a Club Room and must be pre-paid.

  • Are we able to get an early check in on the day of the wedding?

Unfortunately, this is not a service that we can guarantee, we therefore recommend for brides who are getting married in house to stay the night before so they can get ready in their room. This is included in our Elegance and Sparkle packages. However, if you room is ready early we will allow you to check in before 2pm.
