New Year, New Sport

New year, new you? Have you set yourself a challenge to try something different for 2017?

Whether you’re looking to get into a new sport yourself or a new activity for your child, golf is a great sport to take up at any age. It can be fun, social and very rewarding, and I’m going to tell you why…

Golf Clubs

Fitness

Did you know, playing an 18-hole game of golf can burn at least 900 calories? That’s right, you can burn almost half of your recommended daily calorie intake, in just one game. The amount of walking (the average game of golf can cover around six miles!) combined with carrying or pulling golf clubs can really help to improve your fitness levels. Perfect if your new year’s resolution is to get more active!

Golf can even help protect you against osteoporosis…

Health

Playing golf has a number of health benefits, including helping to combat stress. The combination of being outside in the fresh air, the exercise and the social aspects of the game all help to relieve symptoms of stress.

The sport can also help boost your vitamin D levels (sunshine vitamin), which helps to maintain strong bones, muscle function and keeps your immune system nice and healthy.

Golf can even help protect you against osteoporosis. The brisk walking and swinging of the club helps to build up bones and prevent the disease.

Social

Golf is an incredibly social sport, whether it’s meeting new people along the course or joining a club membership and sharing a drink with fellow golfers in the clubhouse, it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and gain some new friendships.

Competitive sport

Golf can be a really competitive game, whether you’re playing for leisure with your friends, for business with clients or even in a competition, let’s be honest, we all want to win! So, if you’ve got a competitive streak, golf could be the perfect game for you.

Have I convinced you yet? Not to worry if not, I’ve got a whole series of blogs coming your way in the next few weeks, which will help give you a feel of what to expect of golf as a beginner. If you can’t wait that long, then give us a shout here at SbN and we’ll be happy to help you get into golf this new year.
