5 activities to keep the family occupied during ‘Britain’s big freeze’

As Britain’s ‘big freeze’ is set to continue for at least another week, you may be thinking the last I want to do, is go outside this weekend – I know the feeling! As tempting as it is to sit and hibernate on the sofa in front of the fire, there are still so many activities you can do in Suffolk regardless of the weather.

Here are five of my favourites:

Theatre

I love a good theatre performance and there are loads of theatres to choose from in Suffolk, all offering a whole range of different performances. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a few hours out of the house, without being out in the cold!

The beach

If the sun is shining on a crisp day, there is nothing like wrapping up warm and heading out for a nice winter walk, and where better to go than the seaside? It’s a great place to take the whole family including the four-legged members – from October to April there are no dog restrictions in force on any beaches in Suffolk. Take some blankets with you to keep warm and enjoy fish and chips on the pier!

Framlingham Castle

Head over to Framlingham Castle to explore the amazing views on the 10.5 meter high wall walk. There’s also special audio guides to take you back in time through the castle, one for adults and one for children.

Flatford

Just like SbN, Flatford is located within the beautiful Constable Country. With a range of things to do such as exploring artist, John Constable’s collection, getting on your wellies and taking a stroll along the river Stour to Dedham, or treating yourself to a special ‘Bake of the Month’ in the Tea Room! – Flatford is a great place for the whole family to enjoy, whatever the weather.

Pin Mill pub walk

What better way to spend a chilly day than in the pub? The Pin Mill pub walktakes you on a 3.25 mile trip to view the local sites. At the end of the walk you will (conveniently) return to your starting point at the Butt and Oyster pub – a perfect location to reward your exercise with a spot of Sunday lunch!

Don’t forget to wrap up warm if you choose one of the outdoor activities this weekend!
