Fleece Jazz has been a part of the local atmosphere surrounding the Hotel for over two decades. This non-profit organisation first gathered in the Guild Room at the Fleece Hotel, Boxford (just 10 minutes up the road), hence the name ‘Fleece’ Jazz. When the popularity of their gigs and guest musicians increased, the volunteer music-aficionados sought another venue in order to keep up with the demand.
In 2009, Fleece Jazz came to Stoke by Nayland Hotel and since then they have held a performance nearly every Friday night from 8pm for hotel guests, local residents, visiting jazz enthusiasts and members alike.
The late Devora Peake valued not only the link to the local community but also the fact that Stoke by Nayland Hotel could be a secure place for musicians and artists to hone their craft in front of enthusiastic members of the public – we are proud to say that our relationship with Fleece Jazz lives on to this day.
