Suffolk Magazine reviews Stoke by Nayland

As if you need confirmation that Stoke by Nayland is a great place to escape to, Suffolk Magazine have published this review, detailing exactly why this is a great place to visit and get away from it all! (See downloadable pdf of the article below.)

"There comes a time in the life of any hard-working girl when the thing you want more than anything is to be pampered. And when you get that yearning the place to head for is Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa.

This is just about as close to perfect as it can get. Eighty luxury hotel rooms with – including suites bigger than some one-bedroom flats I’ve seen – two 18-hole championship golf courses, a superb spa, state of the art gym and fitness facilities, a comfy lounge bar and the Lakes Restaurant serving exquisite food, plus all mod cons including Wi-fi. What more could you want?

One of the nice things about Stoke by Nayland Hotel is that it’s a family business and you get the impression that the people behind the scenes really care.

It’s owned and run by the children of Bill and Devora Peake, who founded their company, The Boxford Group, in the 1940s and developed their small 120-acre apple farm to produce one of the country’s best known fruit juice brands, Copella. Bill died in 1979, Devora in 1999, and what you see today is the result of their entrepreneurial skills – a diverse group of companies that includes a hotel, golf, leisure and conferencing business, and fruit growing and processing on around 900 acres of land.

I like the fact that the hotel is diverse and modern – the hotel’s extensive conference facilities are a popular choice for weddings and business events. The Peake Spa has members who travel from as far as Ipswich and Colchester to use it on a daily basis so there’s always people coming and going, things happening.

For all that it’s also a wonderful place to unwind. The hotel is set in gently undulating countryside with stunning views of distant Stoke by Nayland village and its landmark church. The Peake Spa is a real treat – swimming pool and relaxing treatments, a high tech gym if you’re feeling energetic, and its own cafe/bistro. There are an amazing 12 treatment rooms, including Rasoul and Hammam suites. Other treatments include aromatherapy, reflexology, non-surgical face lifts, microdermabrasion, Indian head massage, manicures, pedicures, tanning and waxing. It’s wonderfully indulgent, a real lift for the body and soul.

If golf’s your thing there are two 18-hole championship golf courses to test your skills. The club is ideal for golf days and golf breaks and has become a regular venue for pro-ams, county, national and international championships.

However you relax, Stoke by Nayland Hotel is the place to lose yourself for a day, a weekend, a week or even longer. If you tire of golf, or spa treatments there’s Constable Country to explore. Go by car to some of the charming historic villages along the Suffolk/Essex border or go on foot – there are picturesque walks through gently rolling countryside and a pub or two along the way. Go on, spoil yourself".
