Lee Westwood’s continued good form has seen him return to the top of the world rankings over recent weeks, however it’s not just his own game that is leading the way. The Lee Westwood Golf School, after only one year of operating, is set to open a second venue and has selected Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf & Spa.
The success of the golf school located at Macdonald Portal Resort, Cheshire, has led to a second school being planned for the south of England. The School which offers a two-year programme designed to develop talented golfers aged 16 and above follows a unique structured programme that will develop and enhance golf and education, including lifestyle, psychology, fitness and more.It is the first school of its kind to be accredited by the world number 1, and will result in students gaining a BTEC Extended National Diploma in Sport.
The partnership with Stoke by Nayland comes as no surprise; Stoke by Nayland was recently named as a Regional Performance Centre for England Golf, and has worked closely with the English Golf Union in developing young golfers. Lee Westwood a former member of the England Golf Unions Coaching Squad, represented England in the Home Internationals in 1993 before turning pro, and benefited from the development work carried out by the English Golf Union.
The extensive facilities at Stoke by Nayland include practise facilities, health club and spa, hotel complex and two championship courses, notably the Gainsborough Course which hosted the European Seniors Tour. In July Stoke by Nayland Gainsborough Course will host, for the second consecutive year, a European Challenge Tour Event, a professional tour with foundations deeply entrenched in the development of professional golfers and often used as a stepping stone to the European Tour.
Susanna Rendall, Managing Director at Stoke by Nayland commented “Throughout our discussions with the Lee Westwood Golf School we have been very impressed with the ethos of the school, their structured education programme and the opportunities the school creates for these young golfers. At Stoke by Nayland we work hard to invest in the development of the game and this partnership is testament to that commitment “.
The Lee Westwood Golf School is planned to open in September 2011, and is currently accepting applications. For more details go to www.leewestwoodgolfschool.com.
