Keeping it green

The Country Lodges have been designed with energy efficiency and the environment in mind

Designed to nestle sympathetically into the Suffolk landscape, the Stoke by Nayland Country Lodges have been built in eco-friendly materials – they’re clad in sustainably sourced Iroko wood and feature sustainably sourced Red Cedar shingles on the roof - as well as to an eco-friendly design – excellent insulation and carefully thought-out airflows ensure that energy usage is at a minimum.

Sources of renewable energy have been included wherever possible, so electricity is provided by arrays of photovoltaic panels, domestic hot water is generated using solar thermal panels, while air source heat pumps power the underfloor heating for an eco-solution to comfort levels in each luxury lodge. In addition, the interiors boast low-energy lighting and low-flow toilets, amongst other energy-saving measures.

In addition, the Country Lodges are situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a title that has only been awarded since the Peake family developed a 300-acre plot of relatively infertile arable farmland into the original golf club in the early 1970s, and created the wildlife-friendly habitats that we see today. A rich and varied landscape, the area enjoys excellent biodiversity thanks to the variety of habitats provided, from the natural water features and man-made lakes to the apple orchards and the woodlands which have been planted using indigenous species – more than 60,000 saplings have been planted over the last 40 years.

Not only are the lodges keeping it green, the hotel and golf courses also have a big part to play in terms of environmental preservation and conservation – click here to read more.
